2006
WEC launched the Think Big! as a conference presented by WestJet and held at the Rotman School of Management.
WEC
also helped to launch important research of the state of women
entrepreneurship in Canada by Professor Karen Hughes of the University
of Alberta
2005
In partnership with CAWEE, OWIT, WIFT, International Trade Canada and the Canadian Consulate General – Chicago, WEC presented a trade mission to Chicago to discuss trade issues in knowledge-based sectors with U.S. counterparts.
WEC traveled to Morocco for the FCEM International Presidential election, and to Florida to represent Canadian entrepreneurs at the NAWBO conference.
At home, WEC presented to the Standing Committee on the Status of women on the issue of statistical research and financial support for women entrepreneurs as well as regarding parental benefits for the self-employed. Several WEC members also participated with TV Ontario for its Career Matters initiative — a web series to inspire future entrepreneurs.
2004
WEC launched a new brand and established strategic alliances with PROFIT Magazine and the Economic Club of Toronto. With the Economic Club of Toronto, WEC co-sponsored a series of high profile events for women entrepreneurs and corporate executives in Toronto.
WEC participated in NAWBO’s Annual Meeting and Women’s Business
Conference in Dallas, Texas to develop trade and business development
opportunities in a borderless North American environment.
In 2004, WEC hosted the second Joint Business Forum with NAWBO and the
Women Economic Council in Detroit and represented Canada in the FCEM
World Committee Meeting in Torino, Italy, and the 52th World Congress
in Glasgow, Scotland.
2003
WEC submitted input to the Senate Standing Committee on Bank Mergers and the Task Force on Women Entrepreneurs. WEC also co-hosted a Joint Business Forum with NAWBO, in partnership with the Consulate General of the United States of America and the Canadian office of the Council of Great Lake Governors, to celebrate the proclamation of the Women Entrepreneurs Day in Toronto. WEC also participated in the “Partners in Peace and Shared Prosperity” conference hosted by the Mauritius FCEM World Congress.
2002
WEC hosted the World Association of Women Business Owners (FCEM) Steering Committee Meeting in Toronto, and sent a delegation to the Jubilee 50th FCEM WORLD Congress in St. Petersburg, Russia. WEC also participated in the BAWE-British Association Conference and the Arab & International Business Women’s Conference in Dubai, the United Emirates, and the NAWBO Congress in Salt Lake City.
2001
On the local level, WEC initiated “Mentoring: the Next Generation”, a program for Parkdale Collegiate high school students and presented to Toronto City Council. Internationally, WEC represented Canada at the 49th FCEM World Congress in Mexico City.
1999
WEC sponsored the Canada-U.S. Business Women's Summit, opened by the Honourable Sergio Marchi. WEC also helped organize a trade mission for women to Los Angeles hosted by the former Prime Minister, Kim Campbell.
1998
WEC provided creative direction for Fast Forward, an award-winning national resource guide co-sponsored by WEC and the Ontario Women's Directorate. WEC also produced its second documentary "Young Entrepreneurs: Making it Happen".
1997
WEC hosted the Launching Global Networks Conference, opened by the
Honourable Art Eggleton, that attracted delegates from around the
world. WEC sponsored the first all-woman Trade Mission to Washington,
DC, and created the first pre-budget round table for women with then
Finance Minister, Paul Martin.
WEC also produced and launched the documentary "Women Entrepreneurs: Making A Difference", which won two awards.
1995
WEC represented Canada in the establishment of the Can-Asian Businesswomen's Network.
1992
WEC became the Canadian Affiliate of Les Chefs d'Entreprises Mondiales (FCEM), the World Association of Women Business Owners that today has 68,000 members in over 40 countries. WEC also hosted the first Canada/USA Women's Summit with the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO).
